I'm looking to buy a digital camera for land and underwater use. I have no clue what to look for! Most of my diving is done in Canada. Can you do Black and white pics with digital cameras? Any idea of what type of camera/housing?

Thanks

Hello,

Look at this site to learn about digital camera's and their features: http://www.dpreview.com/

Here you can learn about housings:

Yes on most cameras you can set the camera to black and white but it is probably better to take them in colour and to change them later in black and white with a program such as paint shop pro or adobe photoshop. Then you also still have the color picture.

My husband and I are also going to buy a digital camera with a housing. We are going to buy the Olympus C5050 zoom with the PT-015 housing.

The higher the pixels the bigger you can print the pictures while they are still very sharp. Also you might want to look at the battery life of the camera (you do not want your battery to die during your dive) and the type of batteries the camera uses. Personally I like that the C5050 uses AA bateries because if the rechargable batteries for some reason are already used up and you are on vacation you can always buy AA bateries and thus still use the camera.

Hope this helps.

I second this set up Olympus C5050 zoom with the PT-015 housing.
One it’s a 5 Mb camera and there are lots of accessories you can add to it to take great pictures on land and underwater!!!!!!!!!!

I'm hesitant to jump here but.... if you primarily plan to do black and white (I'm not sure if that is the case) then film is the way to go, and thats the truth, not just film**** propoganda.

Please tell the digi****s not to shoot for saying this! :p

and if my twisted and sarcastic terminology offends you... just pretend i said fanatic instead of ****.... and please don't shoot me for it.
