Hello All,
Just join scubaboard and hoping to get some advice for the Ikelite DL compact dome port.
I just get the Ikelite housing for my R6 Mkii with teh EF 100mm marco len. Yet to tryu it underwater.

But since I also have the RF16mm F2.8 prime. looks like it is not a bad idea to get the compact dome to go with it. However, I did nto find too many comment on this dome port and I never dive with any. Also there seems to have no review about using teh 16mm with it (although Ikelite is recommending this port with the len).

So I come here to see if any user is using this combination and better if some photo can be shared.

Regards

Congrats on the new camera and housing.

I shoot an R5 with Ikelite and have used them for years. Ikelite generally does a good job at testing the combinations they list in their port charts, so they will work. As with any wide rectilinear lens you can expect better corner sharpness with a larger dome (and/or have to stop down the aperture less), but it looks like the compact dome is their recommendation so I'm guessing the performance is very close between the compact and 8" domes. There's also some posts on Wetpixel saying a compact dome works ok with it.

I personally prefer either the RF 14-35 or the EF 8-15 fisheye for wide angle work, but those are both much more expensive lenses and you already own the 16mm so might as well try it out. But if you're not dead set on using that 16mm lens forever, you might look into some other options or plan ahead before committing to ports/extensions. The compact dome for example will work with the fisheye (as will the 8"), while the bigger 8" dome would be better for a very wide rectilinear zoom like the 14-35.

thx for your advice,
i have never use any dome UW and was hesitated due to their price. Even in this case, I am not very convined that I will shoot WA alot. In Hong Kong I feel the water is not favour to WA. So may be I just get used to my R6 for UW shooting first before committing to another investment.

Thx again for your detailed advice.

Yeah, nothing wrong with starting by doing just macro. It's easier in terms of settings, and less dependent on things like strobes and ambient light or visibility. I had both when I first started, but brought my macro lens on probably 90% of my dives.
