I just received a B&H notice (Nikon SB-N10 Underwater Speedlight Flash for Nikon 1 3773 B&H) that Nikon has released a new flash for it's underwater camera and the Nikon 1 cameras. The interesting thing is they rate the guide number at 92 for 100 iso. My YS-01s have a guide number of 20 at 100 iso. So, I'm wondering if the guide number for the Nikon is off, or can it's fiber optic be adapted to my Nauticam housing?

The Nikon GN is in feet, the S&S GN is in meters. Website says Nikon strobe has GN 28/20 with diffuser. It also looks like it is built by Sea & Sea and labeled for Nikon, similar to what Sea & Sea does for the Olympus strobes. You can get a Sea & Sea YS-D1 for less.

The Nikon is rated for guide # 92'. I believe the YS is rated in meters, so 20 would be about 65'. The Nikon would still be more powerful, but the only compatibility they list is for the Nikon 1 and the AW series underwater camera. Which camera do you have? Guide # ratings are often poorly compared between brands. Periodically, Backscatter does real world strobe tests side by side with a certified tester. I'd look for the next one to be sure that the advertised # is accurate.
