Previews look very good; Amazon is taking advance orders at $499.

Features I like:

It shoots RAW, and RAW+Jpeg. Has A, S, M modes. Has Hot Shoe. Has 3 inch 920K dot LCD (WOW!). HD video 720P. Custom white balance. Macro to 2cm or 0.8 inch. zoom 28-200mm equiv. High ISO 6400/12,800 but noisy I'm sure.

Features I am glad they left out:
It does not have articulated display -- a plus since the display can be bigger and more reliable. It dropped GPS -- the P6000's GPS took 5 minutes to locate and hogged battery. LAN connection -- it only worked to Nikon Picturetown!

Features I don't like:
New battery type EN-EL14 - yet another battery size -- why??? RAW is NRW format, hope Lightroom has it.

The Fantasea FP7000 housing will have a dedicated Fantasea Line BigEye lens for wide angle and SharpEye Lens for Macro, also a dedicated RedEye for natural light and HD video cinematography.

We will have a banner link up soon in the Fantasea website describing more of the Fantasea Line P7000 package but for now, check out
http://www.fantasea.com/Product_Releases/PR_FP7000.html

The first units will be on display next week at the Photokina in Germany and then at DEMA, Delivery date for the market is early 2011.

thank you

I'm a big fan of the P6000 and this looks like an even better camera. Fantasea has announced a housing, but it says delivery in 2011. What do we do in the meantime? The door is open to FIX, 10Bar and Ikelite, who can deliver.

Fantasea makes good housings but they have not been readily available. I'm not knocking them, hope they get it together. I've tried to order several, no luck. For instance the FL22 housing for the Nikon L22 has been on backorder for months with delivery promised in October. The FP5000 case for the P5000/P51000 has been on backorder for months too (probably discontinued). The FP6000 case for the P6000 was announced but I never saw one for sale. The Bigeye lenses are often on backorder, especially the one for the Canon DC34. It seems to me that production is way out of sync with demand.

The FP7000 housing has a lot of resemblance to those from Sea&Sea. Look at the rotating cam latch, the hinge style, the fiber connector, black front -- very different from any previous housing from Fantasea. My hunch is there is some teamwork going on here.

I could be wrong, but... I am hoping they have more manufacturing volume capability due to an alliance. Right now it seems they have limited capacity to build existing products. Which is a shame because the products are great. In May I dove with a Swiss guy who had the FP5000 housing for his P5000 and he loved it. We'll see what the future holds.

Dear Slowhands,

Thank you for you kind words and honest and reasonable criticism.

We wil do our best to meet the growing interest and product requests for our new FP7000 housings.

Custom design housings, created and dedicated to a specific camera model take time, the engineering and design phase is lengthy, then mold making, injection, assembly, QC, QA and extensive chamber and dive testing is a lengthy procedure.

Fantasea Line had the full support of Nikon in developing the FP7000 and have been in the R and D phase for over 2 months already. The first sample models will be shown at Photokina next week in the Fantasea Line booth (you are all welcome to come and see it) Hall 3.1 B23 in the Underwater Photo section.

We will also have the housing in our booth at DEMA.

Once we are totally convinced that the FP7000 is ready for the market it will be made available and in quantity. We estimate this to be early 2011 and well worth waiting for. Consumer price estimate around $400 for a 200ft/60 meter rated housing.

The Fantasea Line website Fantasea will soon open a special banner and link about the FP7000 housing and pre orders will be accepted shortly.

For your information, this is an exclusive Fantasea Line design and production. There will be a Fantasea Line BigEye Lens for it as well as other dedicated optics. You are correct, there is a lot of teamwork in any production like this and we have an excellent team working with us but all are Fantasea Line and associated production facilities.
