Hello,
I'm pretty sure mine and my wifes story is a familiar one but here it goes...
Couple of years ago, getting burned out in our respective careers, I'm a Master Electrician and my wife a Dental Assistant. We decided a career change was in order even if it meant part-time and or seasonal work. I currently work for a Ski area in Colorado, where I would love to be gone most of the winter months.
Being experienced divers it made sense to pursue 2nd careers in diving. My goal was instructor or better and Cindy more in the management aspects of the business. Two years later, (including 1 1/2 years in Hawaii), I'm a Divemaster with a certificate in Regulator and equipment repair and Cindy trained in Resort operations. With all this can't find any work anywhere what so ever. Even when I offered our services in exchange for free diving only, were it a seasonal positon. Was eventually told due to our age we would never find work unless we bought the business itself. I don't remember this being mentioned in all those PADI training classes. So much for a 2nd career in diving.
Plan B: Set up seasonal lifestyle here and just take 3-4 months off somewhere we can trade out some work for diving and pay the rest of the ride out of pocket.
Any suggestions anybody????????
Tom and Cindy
