Good morning and hello to all of the forum members!

I'm new to this forum and sport having just received my open water cert in September and have to give a big THANK YOU to my girlfriend for getting me back on track and hooked on this sport. Her recent recent certification earlier this year and subsequent trip to Maui and the OMG text messages plus the photos prompted me once again to finish what I started in the mid 80's.

We are hooked on this sport and I will have lot's of questions to ask about local surf conditions in southern California, camera equipment and scuba trips we're going to take during the next year so I hope nobody minds when I start filling the forum with questions.

This is my first post to this board so please excuse any missing items such as an avatar picture or signature or anything else that doesn't appear correct. The silly part about all of this is that they let me play with all of the expensive servers in the back room but I have difficulty working a simple forum page

Thanks and hello again!

Welcome to scuba board!!! Surf Reports, Surf Forecasts and Surfing Photos is a good website to find out surf information in Southern California and all over the world. Also, if you should find yourself down here is San Diego, you can call the San Diego life gaurd hot line for surf conditions. The number is 619-221-8824. Good luck and safe diving.

Thanks brew77, I'll keep that website on top of the browser and check it often for reports. Now I just need to get smart enough to read it.....

Welcome aboard Mark! Having spent MANY years in 29 Palms, I know diving locally isn't gonna happen, but there is plenty available once you head to San Diego or Monterey. Or if you really feel froggy, you could dive in Havasu, but there won't be much to look at there. Best of luck with everything, and as far as the forum goes, just try different things. You can always edit the posts, or delete them if they really come out funky! Take a look around, ask a bunch of questions if need be, and best of all have fun!!:D
Welcome!

Do you have your own gear yet? I assume you plan on diving locally right?

I'm getting back into the swing of things, from a slightly different angle, but still maybe sometime after the holidays we can hook up?

Welcome aboard here and to the underwater world!!!!

Please feel free to drop on down to our local forum and join in the fun here: SoCal

Hope to see you in the water one of these days.:D

Hey tye1138, Yep we own our own gear with the exception of not owning any bottles yet and we haven't decided on how we need to approach this situation. I'm sure at some point in the future they may make sense to own a couple of bottles but with trips to Hawaii and other foreign travel destinations, they really don't make much financial sense at this time. As far as a local dive, my girlfriend and I would love to get with other local divers when the time and surf conditions permit so drop me a PM and we'll see about getting together after the holidays for a couple of dives.

and usmc88fan, I do own a home in 29Palms, in fact I just made the final payment on it in August so I have a few extra dollars now a month to save for diving trips, but I actually spend the bulk of my time in Upland, Ca at the company bachelor pad and only go home once a week to water the trees and empty the mail box so all of the diving I've done so far is all beach diving and a dive over at Catalina at Casino Point.

Thanks dwaters, I'm going to go check out the SoCal dive forum and see if there is a meet and greet so the two of us can meet some of the local divers and start gaining some more experience and meeting people who can give us ideas on where to go diving.

Thanks everyone and we hope to see some of you in the water in the near future!

Thanks!
