This morning I was laying my gear out to dry after soaking it last night in the condo. My wife was sitting and reading a book while I was going through my gear.
I was unrolling my DSS SMB to lay it out to dry. My wife looked up and said jokingly, "Is that an emergency sash?" I said, "Ha ha ... very funny. It's a DSMB. It's used in case you get lost on the wreck or blown off and have to surface away from the boat. You inflate it, let it ascend to the surface and then work your way up this line. It's a Diver Submerged Marker Buoy." I then demonstrated how it works.
She looked at me and said, "Neat, but I think it stands for Diver Stupid - Missed Boat".
