I'm sure you guys have your plate full BUT I'd like to throw out something for you to consider.

First off I love my Cobalt dive computer, could not really ask for anything better. I'm sure you're working on a
smaller more compact version or wireless model, and I'm fine waiting on it.

The screen on my Cobalt is amazing and everytime and I mean everytime I dive with it folks comment on how easy it
is to see. That's the main reason I purchased it.

Now on to my request:
As an Instructor, I move between pool and Open Water constanly and really don't need the computer in 4-12' of water.
- I have the QD but don't really the Cobalt hose flopping around when I take off the head unit, all while adding an extra analog guage.

If the male portion of the QD, off the bottom of the computer, was available with threads so someone could add a guage to that and thereby allow you to QD swap between the guage for pool work and then go to the computer for OW.

It would be a very nice touch to an already superior unit.

yea, I know wish in one hand and p-- in the other and see which fills up first......

This is a great idea which has come up before, and it's probably something Atomic should make for instructors or others who end up doing a lot of pool diving. In the meantime, one of our dealers has actually machined some adapters exactly as you suggest, to mate the hose end QD to an analog SPG. You could contact Walt at Central Oregon Diving 541-388-3660 and check with him.

It's also very possible to unscrew the QD fitting from the hose, which fits any standard gauge- not quite a convenient as being able to us the QD fitting, though.

Thanks Ron...I could not have said it better myself!

Thanks Guys, knew if it made some sense to me, you had likely already thought about it...

My Cobalt gets enough use as it is and just hate to beat it up with pool dives !

Regards !

or.... the HP quick disconnect at the first stage like SP made a few years back (no longer available)....

A male end screwed into the HP port, and a female adapter attached to the hose. Allows me to switch to whatever device I need (console, SPG, computer). Not sure why, especially in this day of more AI comps, its been discontinued.....

A quick question as I have not examined the QD aspects of the Cobalt. Given that a third party made up the male side of the QD for attaching a SPG I am I correct in stating that the male side of the QD is integral to the computer itself? That is, the only way to connect the computer to the HP hose is via the QD. I.e one can not connect a std HP hose directly to the computer?

I ask because if this is the case then a potential issue is if the female side of the QD is damaged there is no way to connect the computer to a HP hose. While chances are slim I can see the potential if say a scuba cylinder was dropped on to the QD thus damaging it.

Hopefully I am wrong and the QD is actually two parts with the male part being removable from the computer like the female side.

The Cobalt's case was designed from the beginning to be attached via the QD fitting. The male QD is actually what is holding the HP sensor, it's not an add-on attachment on top of a threaded fitting, as with some older computers- that would have made the assembly quite a bit larger. So no, there isn't an option for attaching the Cobalt to a hose without the QD fitting. You won't hurt anything by diving with the QD detached, but you wouldn't get air pressure. Though anything can be broken, The fitting is pretty tough, and in practice it has not been a problem.

The individual who made the adapters is a dealer who got some of the male side HP fittings from Atomic (minus the sensor) specifically to make an adapter for his analog SPG.

Thanks for that info. Interesting when looking at another well known mfg and their male QD it looks to add maybe 1/2" to the length. But good to know about how the Cobalt is assembled.
