Hey guys,

I'm as new to diving as they come. I've wanted to do it for years, and a couple of weeks ago I got a great discount on a SCUBA diver course.

I now have 12 months to use this voucher but thought I'd wait for the visibility in Melbourne waters to clear up a bit.

In the meantime I thought it would be fun to get involved in the diving community and hopefully get some tips and places to learn more about equipment, locations and things like that.

If for some reason you wanted to know a bit about me, I'm 18 years old and doing my VCE in Melbourne, and hope to be certified and equipped to some extent to dive throughout Uni.

In the long run I hope to do as many courses related to adventure diving as I can, I want to go deep in the dark and do as many exciting dives as I can.

Thanks for reading this if you did, hope to hear from some (friendly) divers soon.

Which dive shop did you get the voucher through? There's a lot of active clubs in Melbourne and some great dive sites in and around Port Phillip Bay.

Get your OW done as soon as you can, don't wait until spring. It is a little cold now, but nothing the right wetsuit can't handle. Visibility is actually better in Winter here (or so I'm told).

Also check out www.metrodive.com.au. They're running a club night on Thursday the 26th of May at 7:30, if you'd like to meet other divers.

Drop me a line as soon as you're ready to dive. :)

I'm doing it with harbourdive.com.au.

It isn't an OW course unfortunately just a two day course to 12m I think.

I really am not sure where to find good dive equipment, including a good wetsuit, but I know a few divers who can lend me a mask, snorkel and fin for this dive.
