Hello!
Me and my boyfriend recently got dive certified! We are both stationed in jax, fl. We are moving to New Orleans in June and would like to meet people who dive or have any advice to give new divers! Thank you

I dived in 10' water in L. Pontchartrain somewhere SW of Slidel. Don't recommend it.

I no longer live in the area (but sure wish I still did!) You'll be 3 hours from some great diving out of Pensacola, FL. There are several good shops/boats in Pensacola including:

H2O Below | Pensacola Scuba Diving & USS Oriskany Charters
MBT Divers - Pensacola Scuba Diving Training, Equipment, and Service
Niuhi Dive Charters - Pensacola Scuba Diving Adventures

For diving freshwater springs you have Vortex (about 4.5 hours from NO). It's cheap and dividable in the winter.

Just as an aside, also be sure to enjoy the culinary delights while you're in New Orleans. I recommend:

For breakfast:
http://willajean.com/about
The Ruby Slipper Cafe

For Lunch, muffulettas at:
Central Grocery & Deli – Home of the Original Muffuletta

For supper:
Napoleon House : Napoleon House - New Orleans

Enjoy your new adventure!
