New Diver- looking for gear recommendations!

I'm pretty new to diving (6 dives, certified o.w. last fall) but I'm looking to get AAUS certification, and I need to get a full set of gear. I'm a student and I don't have a ton of income to play around with, but I predict I'll be diving a lot in the future and need to buy gear that will be durable (also, I love my local dive shop but they are trying to sell me things... sometimes I feel I'm not getting the best deal or the right gear for my needs).

So! I've got a wetsuit, and the basic mask/snorkel/fins/gloves/boots, but I would love some recommendations for cheap + durable:
-BC (my dive buddy's got a zeagle stilleto)
-reg/octopus
-tank
-lights
-knife
