New diver in ft.lauderdale

Hi all, I'm new to the board. I have spent the last few days reading all the amazing stuff here.

I have been diving a lot in the past when I was in my 20's and have not been since. Now that we moved to Florida from NYC. So excited to start diving again.We my wife and I are going to get OW certified next weekend cant wait, then we want to get advanced open water/ Enriched Air Nitrox.

Have a few questions.

1 has any one used Aquatic Explorers?

2 Looking for a good BCD I think I like the Zeagle the only problem with zeagle is my LDS does not stock them ....Something that will grow with me I like wreck Diving and coral and in the future want to do over 130 ft... maybe spear fishing.

3 need a reg have looked into Atomic and Scuba pro MK25T but I think I'm more leaning towards the Atomic.

4 Dive computer? I love Atomic Cobalt dive computer but dropping 1200 x 2 is a lot of $$$.

Any help would be great on equipment and where I can get some good prices? I have no problem buying used because I know most of the stuff will lasts a life time.

Thank you for the reply... Yea I have been checking out the equipment boards...after not diving for 20 yrs a lot has changed. The crazy thing is when I lived in Jamaica and worked for one of the resorts and went diving almost every day. Its just weird to know have to get PADI certified lol. I back then have done wrecks night dives ..... I'm just glad to be in a place with such good diving and it's going to be awesome to be able to go every weekend again. Good luck with OW!!! Were you certified when you dove in Jamaica? If you were and don't feel confident in your skills it's fine to go through the OW course again otherwise a refresher course could be all you need.


Are you talking about Aquatic Explorers in Miami?
Also, realize there's a Tropical Storm coming our way so this weekend is looking iffy for diving.

Hi, no did not have the certification in Jamaica worked at a resort doing water sports. Jet ski and diving . Wife and I are doing the OW next weekend, I was never a instructor but got to dive with clients almost every day. That was 20 yrs ago. My friend got me the job he was born there long story...LOL I live 5 minutes from diver direct.

If I remember correctly, DD carries Zeagle don't they? Also, Discount Divers up the street from DD carries Zeagle products too.

Aquatic Explores has a nice charter business and a nice boat... can't speak about their classes as I don't know any of their instructors.
Are you doing your classes with them? Seems odd since you have a plethora of dive ops a stone throw away from you.

DD does not have them in the Ft. Lauderdale store only in Orlando.

AE were supper cool on the phone and gave me a great price and its private one on one ....the biggest part is my wife has a crazy work schedule....they are so flexible. We got totally jerked off by the last instructor we hired!!! Changing things a day before cancellation after cancellation lies and not getting back to us. Not going yo say who it is Karma is a bitch!!! This went on for 6 months and still have not received the deposit even though they said its in the mail. Not all there fault cuz we went on vac.and back and forth to NYC and just life.
