Did anyone get a chance to see the new Canon Cameras at Photokina (or anywhere else)??? I've been waiting for them to release a new top end point-and-shoot, and looks like it's here! Any news yet?

www.cnet.com just did a full review on the A640 (and many other Canons) and it received good reviews. Only downside was noise at ISO 800. I've played with one at Best Buy as well. Seems like an upgrade might be in order.

The new G7 has no posted reviews as yet. The camera forums have "owner opinions" from everybody apart from camera owners so there is little worthwhile information. The gripes stated seem to be no raw and no twist/fold LCD which IMHO are just whining.

The canon A710IS and housing have JUST become available and I invested in one as a backup to my canon DSLR. Although has ISO to 800 it seems decent for ISO <=200 and the IS feature buys you at least an f-stop.

The G7 seems to be a better bet, with DIGIC iii it should be usable at higher ISO settings, and has TTL flash. The lens/zoom is same as A710 though it has 10MP rather than 7MP (a dont care in my book as MP count is severely overated and never made anyone a better photographer).
