Finally. This looks like a great new choice. I've heard really nice things about the G-6. Maybe some of you Canon guys can illuminate me. It's a little pricey at $600, but goes to ISO1600, has 6x optical zoom and a hotshoe. Anyone heard if it shoots RAW? I looked really hard at the G-6 before buying my Oly SP-350, but it was already dated at the time, and Canon didn't have a housing. They have already listed one (WP-DC11) for the G-7. Can't say if the 10mp is a big difference till the reviews come out, but it looks like a great camera for the UW crowd.

The G7 does not provide raw.

I agree that this should be a nice unit for underwater use.

1. The DIGIC III is (allegedly) more adept at reducing noise, so there is some hope of quality images at ISO800.
2. TTL flash support
3. The IS buys ya quite a bit
4. The 10MP is just a "nice to have" in my book.. i dont subscribe to the MP race.

I have seen no reviews either, dpreview.com usually does a good job.

I just acquired the A710IS + housing so will have some results from Bonaire in 3wks. It has the same lens/zoom as the G7

It looks quite promising Larry...........

I have my eye on it, i'm waiting to see what Dpreview will say about it with their usual exhaustive reviews :).

Having played with a G6 on a few occasions, I can say that the lens is of a higher calibre than those found in the Canon Powershot series...

For the extra $200 over the a710IS i would have hoped so, yet the zoom range, focal length and aperture at min/max are identical.... so somewhat suspicious (?) however I am sure we will find out in the reviews methinks

btw, do agree on your opinion of dpreview.. an excellent site and highly recommended to all.
