Hi All,

I just got a A570IS and I'm trying to get familiar with all the settings. I have a little problem when shooting in manual mode and sometimes in Tv or Av, after every shot the LCD monitor goes black and I have to press the display button a couple of times to get an image back on, any suggestion why this happens ? Also can the exposure be adjusted while in M mode without changing your shutter speed and aperture ? I know it can be done in Tv and Av mode.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you

There is no exposure compensation in manual mode. That's kindda beat the whole idea of manual mode. You can meter it by half-pressing the shutter button.

I do not know why your screen goes blank, mine only goes blank a moment and then displays the shot for 2 seconds which is defualt, user selectable in the menu for longer or shorter.

No, in Manual you must select your F stop AND shutter speed, that is why it is called MANUAL---duh. I use an external meter to set exposure in Manual. The screen will lighten and darken to provide exposure info only when the flash is turned off. A half press will show exposure info with flash OFF or ON.

In Av or Tv which are both AUTOMATIC modes you select either shutter or F stop (lens aperture) depending upon which mode you are in and the camera automatically selects the technically correct shutter or F stop to match. Either mode will give the same exposure, one lets you choose, shutter priority and the other aperture priority. Auto selects both per a built in camera program and Program allows you to modify that "standard" program to suit you.

In Av and Tv and Auto and Program you can compensate your exposure by up to TWO full stops plus or minus.

Read your manual, that always helps.

One other thing, in Manual mode with the flash OFF the screen will go black if the settings are extremely under-exposed for ambient conditions.

Also, you may not know this truth, each "stop" is equal to doubling or halving the light reaching the film or in digital the sensor chip. Therefore, an example, going from 1/30 second to 1/60 second to 1/125 second is a change of two full stops minus--less exposure. Another example, going from f8 to f5.6 to f4 is again a change of two full stops positive--more exposure. N

As to your first question, I believe you have the auto-review mode turned off. You should be able to go into the set-up menu to turn it back on.

Anyone know where I can get a cheap one of these things? Amazon has consistently raised the price over the past few weeks...

The price is going up because they are in demand and supply is dwindling. Just like oil. I would move now before they are none. Do a search on ebay, there is a place in Hong Kong that was selling some a few weeks ago. The low price has come and gone but look at this way, it is still lower than what many paid when it was a new release. Ebay items numbers:

150271351826

250270762245

If you do not have ebay and don't want to have ebay, I do and can purchase, emergency pinch only.

Nemrod, thanks for the info. After searching around a bit on Ebay, Froogle, and Crutchfield, I see that Crutchfield now has them for $160.

I recently purchased a Nikon D40 for an upcoming trip to Truk and Hawaii, but due to some dead pixels on the sensor I had to send it back in for warranty work and I'm not sure if it's going to be here in time for the trip. I didn't get it for underwater shots, just above water stuff. I can grab one of these if I need to...

I saw one at Sears. It was taged $149. You might be able to use some local weekend coupon at Sears.

I went to the Sears website -- they have it for $140. If you put buy it online and pick it up in the store, you get an extra 10% off the $140, bringing it down to $126 + tax.

Not too bad...:D I just ordered mine and will go pick it up shortly.

Thanks for the info, guys! I really appreciate it.
