My new weight integrated, back inflate BC is "pocket challenged". I'm sure this is a common problem. What do you all use to keep things like a small light, EMT shears, slate and so on that would go in the jacket pocket. Some sort of zipper pouch might work but no luck finding something like that.

Dive Rite and OMS both sell essentially the same 6" X 10" zippered pouch that will fit on 2" webbing. A larger 8" X 12" version of the pouch is also available. Both Dive Rite and OMS also have some other assorted pockets that may work for you.

Dacor used to make a nice nylon pouch that was well sized for BC use but I think it has long since been discontinued.

The only DR pouches I am aware of DA with zippers are their weight pouches. I use their "utility" pouches which are about 4 by 8 or so (never measured them) and they use the typical plastic clasp....but work fine so far. I keep a spare mask and sausage in one and junk in general in the other....and surprisingly they are pretty streamlined.

Zeagle has a utility pocket that I wear on the webbing closure on the front of my Concept II, I find I actually prefer it to reaching blind into a side pocket; you can look down and remove whatever you need. It has two zippers to separate your stuff. I carry light and snorkel in one, emt shears in the other.

do you have d-rings?Can you make loops of bungee/surgical tubing around the shoulder straps? Shouldn't the shears be out and available anyways? Glue a pocket on yer wetsuit?

Are you diving wet or dry? Have you considered adding pockets to your exposure suit? I love 'em.

Last summer I ripped a neck seal on day 1.5 of a 3 day dive trip, and one of the other divers was a bit "green" so he was out of the game and let me borrow his suit for the duration.

It was a fine suit (Andys) but it was really weird not having pockets - that's where I keep my stuff. Wet Notes, spare mask, Shears, etc.

I use a BP/Wing w/o attached pockets. I've been using the dive rite bellows pocket that I strap to my left thigh.

Another pocket option I have seen that does not require adding a pocket to the waist strap or modifying your wet suit is to use a pair of spandex shorts with suitable pockets on them. Put them on over the wet suit and presto - instant pockets.

The pockets on my BC are all but unusable underwater due to the curve of the jacket. Its near impossible to put your hand in or extract anything. Takes 30 seconds of frantic pulling to extract my backup torch or backup tables from the pocket.

Net result is i have stuff hanging off D-rings i dont really want hanging off !

Luckily my new drysuit has a cargo pocket so i can stuff a lot of it in there.
