Nice write-up.

But heck, who am I to say. I'm a newbie.

Merry Christmas!

It's a nice article, Mike, but I take a very small issue with your last paragraph.

Although I would agree that the redundancy benefits of doubles aren't realized until you can readily manipulate your valves, I do not think you have to be trained in doing so before you can dive the gear. As long as you are careful to make sure all valves are open before diving (just as you must be sure your valve is open before diving a single tank!) I don't think there's any significant problem with just getting in the water and diving a double tank configuration a few times to get the balance and trim issues sorted, before you begin stressing your stability with valve drills. Just my opinion ('cuz that's what I did :) )

TSandM,

Thanks for you feedback, I really appreciate it!

I am doing the trim and buoyancy dives without the training as well, but have the training planned for the next few weeks.

Happy Holidays!

Merry Christmas!

Mike
