My wife isn't interested in SCUBA but doesn't mind me doing it. My main thing is that I don't have a regular dive buddy. Either my friends do not dive or dive with a regular partner already...:/

How do others get along like this? Just go with the flow as it were? Perhaps having lots of different buddies is a good learning opportunity?

I mostly dive with pick-up (or "insta-") buddies. It's mostly worked out okay for me. You learn what to do from the good ones, and what not to do from the bad ones.

The only trick is getting enough experience first to tell the good from the bad before you jump in. My advice is to ask the captain or DM for help, they'll usually find you a good match. After a while, your dive skills, and interview skills, will have improved to where you can do it pretty well yourself.

So don't be shy, and good luck...

Don't you have a local dive club? It was my impression that a lot of British diving is done through clubs.

When I started, I dove with different people, some of whom I met on line, one of whom was a classmate in OW. Eventually things more or less shook out and I developed a circle of regular buddies that I really enjoy. I think that's more or less how it goes for a lot of people.

Hello
I dive with go along buddies all the time, Some are good, some are bad and some you dont even start the dive. But when you find the right buddie keep him, Dive DIVE DIVE and have fun. Look into local dive clubs, they are great to learn from. Meet people on scubaboard the best place, I have met so many people of this board now that are going to come out and dive with me. I have a very nice person from victory coming out here to visit family and when hes out here going to do some diving with me and help me and make sure my trim is perfect. That is the best thing ever, So float around you will meet divers and dive.
Safe Diving
Chris
