An excerpt from the BBC new after a plot was discovered to blow up American, Continental and United planes from UK-US

Meanwhile, chaos continues at UK airports with Heathrow the worst affected.

Thousands of flights have been cancelled and many more delayed.

Passengers who do make it onto flights, are not allowed to take any hand luggage with them apart from a few essential items in clear plastic bags.

Sources at the Department for Transport have indicated that these current restrictions on hand baggage could become permanent.

One source told the BBC that the "way we travel will never be the same again".

My Mom flew to Hawaii this morning. Her plane was delayed due to the higher security and the long waits to get through security. She used this time to call me to tell me TSA confiscated the following items from her purse and carry-on:

water
icy hot packets
3 lipsticks

She was very disappointed about the lipsticks as she is an avid lipstick wearer and they are of a high-end brand. I joked that she could replace them once in Hawaii but to remember to mail them home.

It may come to the point of where it is easier to mail items to a destination instead of carrying them with you.

I travel a lot on business. My thoughts on this:

1) For 20 years I've been saying: "there are 2 types of luggage - the kind you carry on and the kind you leave at home." I fear the time is coming when nearly everything in the near term will need to be checked. This stinks, as I hate to check.

2) Guess I better get used to using spit as de-fog when traveling with dive gear. No way my beloved PSI500 gel goop gets through screening.

3) SouthWest is looking better all the time. Short haul airlines seem to getting more attractive every day. Next trip: Hooters Air

Oy.

Things will relax in a couple of months, and I'll be able to carry on again.

Smaller baggage allowance. I could live with little/no carry on but raise the checked allowance
