Hey gang,

Nice forums here, lots of info. Was certified initially when I was around 14 in 88' St. Lucia... didn't dive forever and sort of forgot about it as life rolled on. Fast forward 20 years and as I am now winding down my motorcycle roadracing 'hobbie' it's time to find something with a little less impact ;)

Early this month I wrapped up my open water and dry suit certification. Last weekend just did my first underwater pumpkin carve - it was 32F outside and the water was a balmy 39F. I managed to complete the pumpkin and had a dive time of 37min ~20', toes and hands were certainly getting a little cool. Greatly underestimated the amount of bouyancy a pumkin has and how much air you can suck up just trying to cut the top off. Awesome time though and can't wait for next October.

I love buying bits and doodads, picked up Sherwood SR1 regs, a bare velocity 3/2 for Roatan this Feb (going to Fantasy Island), Tortuga BC (please no bp/w debates! :D )mares superchannel fins, an oceanic geo DC, compass, light, knife etc. and now doing research into a drysuit for a guy 6' 6" 215 and 36" waist (35 on a good day). Looked at Bare/DUI but oddly enough may be leaning towards Pinnacle now as there is a distributor right in town that will do repairs with a quick turnaround time.

Really loving this sport so far, it's a nice change from bikes as I don't have to rebuild my reg every 500km and suits last more than a weekend :p

Cheers!

Welcome mittens,

I'm sure you'll find lots of great advice and great people here on SB, I sure did. I discovered it a couple years ago when I also was getting back into diving after a bit of a sabbatical. Its a great way to meet new divers in your area, find out about the latest in equipment, and discuss just about anything if you wander over into the pub. Just don't let posting get in the way of diving ;)

welcome aboard
