Guess I am waiting to buy my 60mm underwater lens until those are available.

Looks like it's almost twice the money of the current lens. Wonder if it's worth the difference and if it will fit in the same port.

Exactly. People weren't too crazy over the AF-S VR 105mm. I'm interested in seeing how the 60 pans out.

At the current exchange rate, the 83,000 JPY announced price works out to about $780. The USA 5 year warranty current version goes for $449. You can knock another $70 off and get a new gray market model.

Is there price parity in existing models?

I've seen exactly the same models of other consumer electronics sell in Japan for twice as much as it does in America (Sony speaker systems).

Euro price translates to $798. British pound price translates to $708. I guess the dollar's stronger against the pound right now. $750-$800 is right in the range of other new lenses from Nikon as well, so I guess that's where they're at. Still, I guess we won't know if it's worthwhile till someone tests it. It's supposed to be out in March. Maybe there'll be a nifty rebate on the current model?

Lots of used 60mm Nikors (old model) around for $300-325. I thought it's list price was $399. I thought I read that the new lens was like $599.

I shot a bit with the 105VR and it does almost focus too fast. The old model is plenty fast enough for me.

I think it's great for the D40/60x, and it's extended length is much smaller than the present lens, so it may well work in a standard port for a lot of housings.

If you go to Ritz, or a UW photo place that sells at retail, you pay $449.
B & H and I think Adorama have the US lens at $395 and the gray market for $369. For $35, forget the gray market, I'll take the 5 year warranty. I've been pricing these things on E-Bay, and you can get them pretty constantly in the $275-$325 range, but again for $50-$75, what the heck-buy the new gray market at $369.

I haven't seen any US prices on the new one, but 599 is the Euro price, which works out to $798 at current exchange rates. If they bring it in at $599, I'm all over that. What about ports and focus gears, though? Who knows if they're the same or immediately available?
