I was asked to look at a Scubapro Mk2 that the customer said had a constant "Leak". I disassembled it and take a look at the HP Seat end of the piston. Anybody ever seen this happen before? What could cause it to split like this?

Abuse during previous attempted service, not sure what else. This is a first. How old is that MK
 
The reg is only a few years old by my estimate. Although not in the picture, the seat was still in the piston when I opened up the reg. It was severely deformed though. I did not get any pictures of it because the seat was too small for my phone to focus on properly.
