Just wanted to let you all know me and my wife are signing up for Nekton's Belize trip (thanks for all the help in choosing a liveaboard/location everyone!) on January 13th to the 20th. It's the southern itinerary (thanks to sjspeck for pointing out the difference). Anyone else going? Also, we don't have our own stuff and have to rent, should a 3mm full be fine?

I would take along a shorty to put over it. There will be a lot of dives available and you may find you start to chill later in the week with just a 3mm full. I know I was glad I had that extra shorty when we did the Cay Sal Banks.

We were on the Pilot last Christmas and I was glad to have my 5mm full suit. Most people were layering up by the third day, and a couple of ladies were layered by the afternoon of the first day. 4-5 dives a day in 78 degree water really pulls the heat out of you.

If you don't own any of your own gear and have nothing for layering, considering spending less than $50 each on a 3mm vest to take with you.

BerRabbit, when did you do the Cay Sal itinerary? What was the water temperature at that time?

We were there the week of August 19, 2001 and the water was 86 degrees. If you scroll down through this post you will find my logbook entries.

Oooh, thanks for posting the link! :D I had only planned on taking my 3mm full suit for our 2 weeks next summer....now I'm wondering if it'll be warm enough for so many straight days of diving. Guess I'll have plenty of time to figure it out before we leave. ;)

I am diving the Nekton Pilot in Belize on Feb 10 - 17, 2007. My plans are to use my full 3mm wet suit and my 3mm shorty for layering. I also have a nice ScubaPro hooded vest if necessary. The water temps in Feb. should be around 78 to 80 degrees based on previous captains reports.

You will enjoy the comfort and room of the Nekton Vessels! I loved my Cayman Islands trip this past October on the Rorqual. I only used my 0.5mm suit in the Caymans as some were diving in swim suits. Water temps averaged 85 degrees all week.

Oh, I purchased my 3mm shortly at Divers Direct in Key Largo. It was an EVO brand around $60.00 and great for a backup suit or layering.

I called the Nekton folks just the other day to make sure everything was squared away, and when I asked how full the boat was they said that only 6 people are signed up for that week. Plenty more space for you SB folks! If not, looks like we'll each have our own personal chef and DM!

Sorry to bring up an old thread, but I just wanted to see if anyone Scuba Board members have signed up for this trip yet! Nekton's Southern Beilze itinerary, January 13th to the 20th. Anyone?
