I'm taking my 16 year old daughter on our first liveaboard this summer and have decided on the Nekton cruises because of the reported stability of the ship ( I tend to get seasick). When I talked to the people at Nekton, they recommended either the northern or southern bahamas itinerary or the Cay Sal Itinerary. I'd appreciate any comments on these itineraries so I can make a decision on which one to try.

Thanks in advance for any input.

I did n. bahamas in spring last year. On my cruise, we had family with teen aged kids and they found it fine for their level of diving. The dive profiles tend to be shallower and more risk adverse than others. I for instance had my longest bottom time ever of 1 hour and 40 min!! they really fill their steel 95's. I was only at 27 feet just watching the world go buy. It's that relaxing!

Did Cay Sal last year on the Sea Fever. Actually saw the Nekton boat while we were down there. I'm not sure you can beat Cay Sal it was absolutely fantastic but we did do alot of deep dives.

Make sure to take your seasick meds even though the boat is stable it still wobbles. I'm very prone to seasickness but with meds was able to easily manage and actually slept better on that boat than I've ever slept anywhere else. Unfortunately one member of our group had to be airlifted off by the Coast Guard due to seasickness complications when we did the Cay trip.

Some of the Cay dive sites can have quite a bit of current but naturally you can always skip that dive and wait for the next site. We really enjoyed our trip and would definitely go again.

Thanks for the input, I actually had planned to take along plenty of seasickness meds, I wouldn't even consider trying it without them.

As far as the itineraries go, depth isn't really an issue as long as there's something to see, my daughter has been as deep as 116 fsw. I'd like to go somewhere that we can see alot. I've been reading the boards for info on this trip and a number of people have commented the the blue holes in the cay sal itinerary are kind of boring. I was hoping to get a few other opinions on the sites before we make a decision.

Thansk again for the input

My husband and I were on the Cay Lobos itenerary last June and enjoyed it so much we booked another trip end of September. With hurricane Jeane approaching we took the option to go at another time. Some of the first dive sites, in June, we stopped at had choppy surface. Towards the end of the trip the surface calmed down and made it easy for me to get in and get the camera from the crew. Because this was the first blue hole I dived, I really have not much to say about it. Just a lot of macro life along the wall.

The best part the Netkon was stable enough for me that I did not get sea sick, which I normally do on the day boats here. The crew and diving are great. Have fun

I worked for Nekton in the past and the southern trip IMHO is the better trip but has deeper sights. If you are taking teenagers with depth restrictions you may want to do the Northern trip. North is still very nice it just gets more dive traffic. I hope you have a great trip.

We went on the N. Bahamas in April '04. We loved it!!! Actually on of our favorite sites was the shallowest (Sugar Wreck) lots to see and lots of time to see it in since it is so shallow you can dive surface, refill and dive again without having to worry about SIT time. I guess you could overdo it, but with time out for a snack or meal, no problem!!
