Heading off to Negril with my wife and her family in April 2010....what are the "do not miss" sites? Underwater that is.......

We've been to Negril twice, once in 2003, the other in 2008. First time, we dove with the on-site dive op at our resort (Couples Negril), second time we stayed at the same resort, but dove with this op: Sun Divers. They came to our resort each morning to pick us up. Their dive shop is located just immediately adjacent to Hedonism's beach.

Their website lists a number of dive sites, including Arches and the Throne Room. We really enjoyed diving with them, professional shop, great divemasters, very courteous people.

Staying at the Breezes Negril. I'll google the above mentioned sites and dive ops for some more information. Any other sites or ops I should look at?

Thanks!

In diving with Beaches the divemaster on the boat will decide the dive site. Sometimes you can ask about a site and if they think the divers on the boat can handle it, and they haven't been there in the past couple of days, then they'll consider your request. Remember that many of these divers are not highly experienced so these are guided dives that end at the time limit or the first diver low on air. You wll not be going alone or setting your own profile at Beaches. They are most concerned with operating a very safe operation.

If you really want a certain dive site or want to set you own limits, then arrange an outing with SunDivers which is just up the street from Beaches. You can set the site, the profile, and the time of your outing. They will even pick you up and return you to the resort.

The best shallow (50-60fsw) dive sites are Throne Room, Arches (a personal favorite), Sands Club, Joe's Reef, and Ritchies Gallery.

The best deep dives (90fsw) Bloody Bay Deep (Deep Plane), Bloody Bay Upper, Green Island Wall, Kingfish Point, and Mike's Reef (my favorite).
