My husband and I are taking the Divemaster course in July in Cozumel. The shop includes the DM Crewpack in its package price, but I was hoping to find a used Divemaster manual (current 2010 edition) to do some pre-study. Hate to buy a new crewpack when I will already be paying for one (I checked and they don't discount if you bring your own).

The used ones I'm finding online seem to be the old books. Anyone have one they want to sell or can direct me where to find one? I'm guessing the manual can't be bought new by itself outside of the crewpack?

Coco7, I'd say you'll get more (or at least as much!) use out of the Encyclopedia of Recreational Diving and the Diving Knowledge Workbook for pre-study than the divemaster manual itself...

It's too bad they won't credit you for bringing your own - it's a lot to read, learn and absorb if you can't do any of it ahead of time! Good luck, and enjoy your program.

Depending on the company you need the crew pack for the label to put on your application.

Just buy the crewpack locally and have them take it off the tab when you arrive.

OP says they won't discount if you bring your own.

Buy the crewpack from LeisurePro and study all you want. Take it with you and use it. Take the new crewpack and bring it home and sell it for 40 bucks less than you bought the LP one. Then you have all the material up front and in the end it costs you 40 bucks.

There is likely a hologram decal that you will need to get the application to PADI processed.
What do you plan to do with a DM certification? As some have said you would be better off reading the enclyopedia of diving than the dm text book. You will also need an instructor manual( it should be in the dm crewpack) as all standard questions are from there.
If you plan on going to instr eventually I would suggest to do the course at a LDS near home. reason is that the LDS is more likely to use a dm and hire an instr that they know before some unknown unfamiliar entity that never did business with them.
