Hi all, I'm new here and would like some help with Scuba equipment... I am looking for a new BCD. I have been looking at Genesis "Cobra", and Genesis "Phantom". Does anyone have them, what do you think... any others I should look at? I will be diving all over, Cold and Warm water... I also need a new Regulator. How is the Dacor "Eagle Sport" or Genesis "GS2000" ? One more thing, Dive Computers? How is the Genesis "Resource Pro" In-Line Computer Console with Compass? I have also looked at Dacor Darwin Nitrox Computer Console and Aeris Atmos 2 Computer Console with Compass.

What would you get?

thanks for the help! :confined:

I've Used the Genesis Cobra a few times as a Rental...good starter BC...I would recommend going one step up and getting the Sherwood Avid.

I have been looking at the Sherwood Avid... It looks like a very good BC

I have the Genesis Recon (back inflate BC, with weight integration) and also the GS2000 regs. Love them both. They are both excellent performers with good flexibility and room for growth.

For computers try to get something that either has AI (air integration) or is a wrist mount. The React is a 'hockey puck' style that you pop into your standard console. I have an Oceanic Atom, but had their previous models as well, PRO Plus2, VT Pro - all very good.

Of your choices there... I'd tell you the Avid is much sturdier than the other two. Heavier material, more D rings etc. And you can get into one of those for about 300 - so going with the others would not save you much. The Dacor eagle is ok for a very inexpensive reg, but the 2000 would be better... adjustable, dry bleed sealed 1st stage, etc. and not run that much more. And the decision between the Dacor and the Genesis/aeris (both made by the same company) would come down to how conservative you want it. I actually prefer the Aeris in that is also has a flashing led along with the audible if you do the nitrox version. And the numbers are bigger.

If you want a jacket style... I'd agree with the Avid... Now I dive a Zeagle, and they are back inflate. If you do a few searches, you will run into a gillion posts of back inflate vs. jacket style. Or you can go read this off my pages if you haven't already: http://scubatoys.com/store/joelarry/backfloatation.asp

Give me a shout on Monday, and we can talk a bit and go a lot more in depth that what we can here... and by the way... don't get scared by the Atmos AI price. When you call me and we put together a package, we'll save you a bunch over our net prices. We just have to post them at that since we are an authorized dealer.
