So I'm a relatively new diver and need to get gear to jump start my diving activities. I have an opportunity to purchase a regulator set up (reg, first stage, octopus, computer w/air and depth gauges. etc.) for an excellent price. What I'd like to know is what people know about the US Divers Arctic regulator. Any kind of knowledge of help would be appreciated. I went looking and didn't find a lot about it which makes me pause. Any help would be great. Thanks a lot.

The most important question I want to know is if you buy it can you get it serviced by your local dive shop?

The Arctic reg was designed for ice diving and does well in a wide range of diving conditions. SOG used them for years.

It is not the newest reg out there and is the source you are getting it from reliable?

To me the most import piece of gear is my reg. I would spend the most money I could on one. I saved and bought Sherwood Maximus and Oasis for my choice, both new and dove a US Divers Conshelf until I could afford my regs of choice.

This is not necessary. There is no need to drop tons of money on a reg set unless you have money to burn for a new diver. Depending on his needs and type of diving he does dictates what he needs to purchase. The OP being new to diving and just starting out is probably single tank diving with yoke connection, needs a setup he can grow from. He would be more than pleased with a SP MK2 with HOG seconds for a super reliable bullet proof and good performing setup. That will not break the bank. Also can be used for different setups later in life. If he is cold water diving then things change. We really need to know what type of diving he plans on doing now and in the future. Just some food for thought. As for the US divers reg, I am not familiar with this model, but would check if the regs have been serviced and all serviced records and reciepts when and where purchased.
Iam DP and I do not approve this message.

Thanks for your help. I'll be diving in the Puget Sound water/area so the water is relatively cold. I'm on a tight budget for gear right now, hence the older regulator; the set up I'm looking at includes an octo (also US divers), computer and inflator cable. I can get the reg serviced; that's no problem. I just wanted to make sure there were any red flags that went up with you guys when you heard the name of the part or the brand.

Thanks.
