I am looking for weight pockets for a total of 10-12 lbs of weight (5-6 lb per side) that can be mounted on the waist strap of my DSS BP and Wing.

Besides my pockets, my alternatives are a weight belt or a DUI harness.

Feel free to comment on what I should do with the remaining 10 lbs of weight that I need with my DSS backplate and bolt on extra weights (and steel tank).

Thank you
David

XS Scuba makes various pockets that can take up to 5-lbs of weight. I've seen Trident brand pouches too. At that low of a weight, you don't really need anything fancy like ditchable pouches but a simple pouch where you can stick your hands in and fish out the weights quickly.

David,

Do you really want to put 100% of your ballast on your rig?

I never recommend that approach for cold water diving.

Having 100% of your ballast on your rig will:

Make your rig very heavy and hard to move about on the surface, and more difficult to "pass up" out of the water if you are diving from small craft.

It will make donning your gear in the water more difficult. You and your buoyant suit will be more or less "pinned" on the surface.

Placing all you ballast on your rig increases the total ballast your wing needs to support if you ditch your gear.

Remember moving weight from a belt to your rig has no effect on your total weighting, but it does increase the load your wing need to support if you and your BUOYANT exposure suit are no longer attached.

Use a belt. Forget pockets. Belts are inexpensive and almost universally available.

Besides XS Scuba ( I use their 5lb QR on my BP/W), Dive Rite, Halcyon, Zeagle, and Oxycheq also come to mind as having QR weight pockets. They range in weight capacity from 5lb-16lb per pocket. They also have an equally variable price range and physical size.

I hate weight belts. I'd recommend a DUI weight harness.

Trident makes a inexpensive weight pouch that slips on 2" webbing. It has 2 velcro flaps but the pocket interior is 1 large volume. It can hold up to 10 lbs as a single or multiple weights but I prefer it with 2 soft weights.
To keep it from moving it has a ring that can be zip tied to a keeper.
I use it on a weight belt for the reasons Tobin mentions early. If I need more than 10 lbs then I add pouches to my tank straps. Having the belt with 4 more more lbs should be enough to make a buoyancy change in an emergency if you are weighted correctly to begin with.
