Need info on Derawan and Kakaban

Hi folks,

I'd appreciate some info on diving in Kakaban and Derawan. I've heard stories about good pier diving in Derawan, also about the jellyfish lake.

Any pointers on the cheapest way to get there, decent accommodation, good dive operators?

The shortest way to get there from Singapore is to fly to Balikpapan, take another domestic flight to Berau. You can get there in one day.

I have checked out the website and it looks pretty good.

The airfare to Balikpapan on SilkAir is rather steep, don't you think? I'm on a budget and am looking at other options (maybe a SIN-Jakarta-Balikpapan flight).

Please do keep me posted on the diving. If it's as good as the reports, I'm planning to go in August.
