Somehow the 'Auto-levels' and 'Auto-Contrast' defaults were changed and all I get now is a black picture when I use either one. Can anyone tell me how to restore this to its original settings? Thanks for any help!!!

This works in PS7 and I think it's the same for PS6.

Open an image

Go to Image>Adjustments>Levels (not Auto-Levels)
or
Image>Adjustments>Curves (either one works)

Click the Options box
Click each of the Algorithms buttons in turn (Enhance Mon...Enhance per...Find Dark...)

For each one change the Target Colors Clipping
boxes to 0.50% - not 5% or 50%.

Click the Save as Defaults box and hit OK.

If you hit F1(help) in PS6, then search for Auto Levels, the "Setting Auto Correction Options explains this.

LMK if this doesn't work, then you've got a different problem.

I'll try that when I get home this evening. Thanks for the suggestion.
