I have a Sony DSC W7 and a Sealife flash. If I am in dim light I can take a picture with the built in flash only and get a dim picture. If I take a second picture with the external flash too I get a black picture. I have tried automatic, P and M camera settings and all the apperatures and shutter speeds.

The camera and flash seem to work properly in moderate or bright light.

What am I doing wrong?

strobe not in sync with camera-strobe fires most likely during "pre flash" on camera.
is "sea life " strobe for digital use? does it enable/disable pre flash?
maybe set setting on camera flash to slave,if that feature is available..

cool..now take a picture while facing a mirror.. or a picture with the strobe in the image..if the flash shows up in the image you have sync..if not ,back to the drawing board..

There is a little black switch in the Flash next to the batteries. Make sure it is set for your camera! I tell the flash how many pre-flashes to ignor before firing! Good luck!
