Howdy Gang,
I could use some advice from you old time drysuit divers.
History: Certified in 1996 NAUI 80 dives total.
Took Padi Drysuit course this summer.
Drysuit: DUI TLS 350
Undergarment: Scubapro Polartech with Nylon shell.
Training Site: Dutch Springs Quarry, Pa.
Problem: IN the 10 Drysuit Dives since I got the suit I had two
uncontrolled ascents in the Drysuit. Both were from
shallow depths, 24' and 28' at the end of the dives.
I was taught by the Padi instructor to use minimal air in
the Drysuit and Use the BC for Bouyancy. Last week I
took my AOW course and the Instructor highly reccommened using the Drysuit for Bouyancy and the BC only on the surface. I know I could easily ascend using an upline but I want to continue training on the free ascents . Any advice on what I might be doing wrong? I do open my shoulder valve all the way before ascending but twice it has gotten away from me.
I love the comfort and warmth of the Drysuit but the touchy nature of the bouyancy concerns me. Appreciate any and all advice. thanks

You never use your DS for bouyancy unless your wing/bc fails. Put just enough gas into your suit to eliminate the squeeze. A drysuit is designed to keep you dry, your undergarments are designed to keep you warm and comfy. The wing is for your bouyancy on the surface and at depth.

make sure you are weighed correctly. You might be too light if it happened at the end of the dives, dont forget your tanks get more bouyant at the end of the dive.
