I am finally going DIR and have an older Oceanic Data Plus 2 hockey-puck style computer I need to wrist-mount, along with the compass out of the console.

I would like to mount both bungee-style. First, anybody got any ideas for the computer?

Second, should I just go ahead and buy a Suunto, get the mount from DSS and be done with it or can I use my old compass in a new mount?

I got everything else set up, getting excited to dive the new rig!

You can get a wrist mount at any dive shop for about five bucks. Run two bungees through the bottom and you're set. Of course, if you're going DIR you'll have to get rid of the computer. :)
Most compasses have holes in the bottom that can be threaded with bungees.

If your computer is the standard "hockey puck size" it will fit in the DSS Uwatec BT mount, that's what I'm currently doing with a Veo180. Not sure if the SK7 compass mount will work with other compasses.

I used some zip ties and some bike inner tube for both computer and compass. I tied knots in shock cord about 3" long and then stuck 4 zip ties together. Strech the inner tube over the computer/compass and then put the 4 zip tie unit over it. Start to cinch it down but before it gets too tight place the shock cord (knots up) in the four little spaces next to the zip tie heads. Now zip it down tight, clip the zip ties close and cover with another inner tube piece. Now all you have to do is connect the four shock cord pieces together in pairs. Tie slip knots and you can easliy adjust for different exposure protection. It's not the prettiest but it works well and my lds didn't have anything better, not to mention it cost about a dime for both units.

Originally I tried to put the shock cord through the holes on the bottom of the compass but the holes aren't spaced wide enough to give any counter strength if you want to rotate the bezel.

Will a standard size compass (e.g., Oceanic) fit into this mount as well? Does the side button on your Veo interfere with the mount at all?

Pictures, please?

I tried to fit my VEO 200 in a DSS bottom timer mount and while the diameter is correct, the depth is too shallow to securly hold it in (the mount has groove to fit the bottom timer's band .. it is too low to help hold in the computer)
I made mine from the VEO wrist mount by cutting off the straps, drilling holes & iinstalling bungee ... it came out very compact ...
