Hello everyone, and thank you in advance for taking the time to read this. My father was an AVID diver and was even one class away from getting his rescue diver certification. Sadly he died recently, not while diving, but in his home from an apparent heart attack. As the oldest son it is my responsibility to sort through his estate and I have come across many pieces of diving equipment that the family will be selling, as none of us are divers. I was wondering of any of you experts out there could give me some advice and information about some of this equipment, what exactly it's for and the approximate value used. I have done some research online but thought I would post here too.
The items I have questions on are:

1. USIA Techniflex drysuit - size XL
2. Tilos 7-6-5 wetsuit
3. Fogcutter X diving knife with blunt tip
4. Oceanic 3+3 torch
5. Oceanic pro plus 2 - appears to be come kind of electronic air meter?
6. OxyCheq - Again, I am assuming this is some kind of air meter?
7. Cochran Gemini - see photo - another air meter?
8. Poisedon regulator hose? See picture below...
9. SSA air tank pack - appears to have air bladders in it?

Again, thank you for any help you can give me...I live in Monterey, CA, a very popular area for divers, so I don't think I will have any problems selling this equipment, just like to know what I am selling so I don't get ripped off.

As with most second hand gear, a lot depends on its age and condition.

1. USIA Techniflex drysuit - size XL
Drysuits can be difficult to resell because they're almost always custom fitted to the individual -- a typical fitting takes about 30 different measurements. A dive shop may be willing to sell it on a consignment basis, but you're probably looking at a couple hundred bucks tops.

2. Tilos 7-6-5 wetsuit
These are only about $200 new, and if used regularly, wetsuits can be expected to deteriorate over time (the material compresses and loses its insulating properties). It may not have a lot of resale value unless it's relatively new and hasn't been used much. Wetsuits are also kind of "personal" gear, so there's a bit of an ick factor in wearing someone else's. You may just want to donate this one to a dive shop to throw in their rental pool.

3. Fogcutter X diving knife with blunt tip
These are about $75 new. Resale value depends on the condition, since knives can rust easily if they're not well maintained. Maybe 40 bucks?

4. Oceanic 3+3 torch
These are about $280 new. If it's in good condition you could probably ask $150-200.

5. Oceanic pro plus 2 - appears to be come kind of electronic air meter?
This is a dive computer, and a pretty good one. With the compass and quick disconnect, it retails for about $900. Depending on the condition, you could probably expect about $500 for it, but only if there are no big scratches on the face or a bubble inside the compass (which is a sign that there's probably a crack in it)

6. OxyCheq - Again, I am assuming this is some kind of air meter?
It's an oxygen analyzer, used to test the percentage of oxygen in the breathing gas. These are about $300 new. Not a lot of recreational divers own their own analyzers, so this may be harder to sell. Maybe $100.

7. Cochran Gemini - see photo - another air meter?
This is another dive computer. I don't know much about these ones. From the Poseidon picture, it looks like the little black box is the wireless unit that goes with the wrist thingie, so make sure you sell them together.

8. Poisedon regulator hose? See picture below...
I don't know a lot about Poseidon regs, but my impression is that they're higher end ($600-800 new). This one looks a bit old so it's hard to say what you'd get for it. If you can find a Poseidon dealer, they could give you an idea.

9. SSA air tank pack - appears to have air bladders in it?
This is a buoyancy compensator (BCD). No clue what it's worth but it looks like it's in good condition. BCDs are anywhere from $250 to $800+ new. I've never heard of SSA so can't comment on its resale value.

Do you happen to know which dive shop your dad belonged to? Pretty much every diver is affiliated with a local dive shop, and if they knew him, they'd probably give you an honest assessment of what the gear is worth. Dive shops may not help you sell it though, since they don't make any money that way.

Hope this helps, and I'm sorry for your loss.

Really sorry to hear about your lose..

Sorry for your loss.

As stated, the 'black box' attached to the Poseidon XStream regulator is the sending unit for the Gemini. Poseidon regulators tend to have a small, but avid, following, so your success may vary, but unless I miss my guess, that XStream is fairly new (few years old).

My recommendation would be to post the gear in the classified section of the forum and accept bids. Joolz has given you some good idea as to the value of each item, although your success may depend on how attached you are to those figures.

***edit: BTW, ensure you include the hose with the Oceanic computer. It's a quick disconnect part.

Looked up the Cochran Gemini with sender on the Tech Diving Limited website -- it sells for $1495 new, but the customer base for that kind of computer is small.

It really depends upon the options. Is the wrist unit monitor or a secondary computer, how many gasses, etc.? The Gemini can easily run upwards of $2300, or as low as ~$800 with a broken trade-in. As you stated, the customer base is small, so the resale won't be that good.

**edit: For clarification, on a Gemini the box is always a computer. The question is whether the wrist unit is just a display feature, or a complete fully functional second computer.

Sorry to hear of your dad passing...............

Keep in mind that the inventory is just that. You can always adjust the value to another down the road. You are better to show a lower value than higher for the estate estimate. It is much easier to show a larger sale than to justify a lower one to all who are beneficiaries of the estate. I just went through this myself a couple of years ago. As for the prices I am going to give you below, they are based on similar used or new items that I sell on a regular basis. What MSRP is on an item doesn't matter, nobody pays that anyways.

Dry suit condition will dictate resale value. Best thing to do is list the size and sell it "as is". At what size the ankles and wrist were cut to fit the original owner will vary from diver to diver. If someone with bigger wrists buys it, it will seal good. If there wrists are smaller, not so much. Also the condition of the rubber, seams and zippers play a big part. Material in the picture looks to be in good shape. The rubber looks a little off, could just be the pic though. Run it on Ebay for say $600 or best offer. Someone will send you something for 300 - 500 and take it.

Wet suit........ Post it up for $50 to $100 and see what offers you get. Its used and you will probably land in the $50 - $75 range.

Knife $ 35 - $ 50ish, take it and run.

Oceanic OP 3+3......... I sell the OP 3+3 w/ LED new for $200 so I think the above quoted number is too high. You will probably be closer to the $75 - $100 if you find a buyer.

Oceanic Pro Plus 2........ It has the compass and quick disconnect. I sell this for $525 new all day long. You should have no trouble getting between $ 325 to maybe $400. Realistic, $ 325 to $ 375. You need to make sure you have the hose that connects the computer to the first stage. If you don't, contact me and I will get one for you. Either that or you can get a price and simply discount that from the selling price.

OxyCheq is an air analyzer. The model you have sells new for between $250 - $275. That is with a new oxygen sensor. The O2 sensor probably will need to be replaced and will cost about $60 - $70. If you sell it for $ 100- $150, you will do fine.

Cochran Gemini --- Good computer. How it is configured and the type of software that it has affects its value. It could be from $500 to $1500 depending on the accessories and configurations. Again, low for the estate inventory. Will need more details before giving you a price. Small market of technical divers on here. Make sure you take the black box in the reg picture and put it with the Gemini computer. That is a must..........

Poisedon first and second stage regulators. The regs will need to be serviced before use by the new owners. This will run between $60 - $100 depending on the models you have. At this point, since I don't know the models of either, I can't give you an exact.... but it does look like it might be on older version. Sell it for say $100 - $275 depending on the model and age.

SSA bcd....... Not familiar w/ this brand. It looks like a tech type with larger wings or a bladder. Should fetch between $ 200 - $375 I would think. Again, can't tell by the picture what it has for options.

I hope it helps and if you have any additional questions, feel free to contact me.

Are those miflex hoses? I've never personally seen hoses that looked like that on a reg and especially one with the disconnect for the pro plus.

I don't think so. Miflex HP only comes in black and is a 1/4" outside diameter. For that matter, they don't off silver that I know of, at least I haven't ordered any. Don't know if they are another similar brand or hose sleeves for abrasions. He was clearly doing some tech w/ the suit and computer. I don't see the q/d for the PP2. What is on the 1st doesn't look big enough to receive the pp2. Then again, it may just be the pic.

It's alway hard to go through a parents posessions for the purpose of disposing of them. You feel like these 'things' gave them happiness, and you are loosing part of their happiness. I had to do this for my mother 3 years ago, so I know how you are feeling. Great saddness!!
The Poseidons are the extreme's. the first stage, with one second should go for around $400-$500, with the extra inflator hose in the picture. the black box will have to go with the Cochran.
Your Dad bought some very nice stuff!
