Hello!
I've been all over the web looking for detailed pics of front, back, inside, buttons, hinges and you name it of all the components that operate the Canon WP-DC1 housing for the S80 camera. I'm especially interested in seeing pics of the knobs and dials that control the camera's zoom functions and the apperature dial as well as those little buttons that switch between ISO speeds.

If anybody has this housing would you please post detailed pictures of all these controls? Also, what has been your experience with the Canon housing at depth?

I currently have the Ikelite housing for the S80 and I find it very awkward to use at depth.

Thanks!!!

Brad

No problem. I took some photos of on at the Sea Rovers earlier this year.

Fantastic!!! Just what I was looking for. What's been your experience with it? Do the controls (like for the zoom) disengage at depth? Can you control f/stop and shutter speed in manual mode?

And, how easily do the little buttons that control macro mode and iso operate?

Also, if you could change anything about the housing and it's operation what would it be?

Thanks MAN!!!!

Actually nvert, I'm not sure why you haven't just had your existing housing updated to fix what it seems this canon housing has as the same problem.

Doing my best with these pics, there's no means with which to rotate the dial. I don't know for sure since I don't own one, but it does seem that way.

I would suspect the button pressure is less on the right side 'star' pattern button since on the Ike housing the button/rotating lever is larger, but at least with the fix, the 90 degree arm can swing out of the way.

Kinda tough to explain without pics, but since you have the Ike, maybe you can see what I mean.

Incase you haven't seen the new 90 degree dial rotating thingy.

HI, I have the Canon housing for a while now. It works very well at depth, but has no control for the dial wheel function. If you want to set the diaphraghm for example, yu need to press 2 buttons to enable the mode. This is not very clean, but it works for me. Especially when you have a flash mounted to the left, where you hold one hand to the arm of the flash, and can use 1 finger to press the button to make the diaphragm selection, while prssing the other button using your right hand; which naturally sits arount the right side of the camera.

I'm not sure what the prior poster meant when he wrote "had no control for the dial wheel function" . As far as I can tell, ALL of the functions are accessible using the Canon housing. There is a "wheel" on the right side of the S80 that controls the overall settings (Manual, Ap Priority, Shutter Priority, Program, Auto etc.) and it works fine underwater. On the back of the camera, there is a "dial wheel" (I think that is what the poster refers to) that is used like the Ipod "wheel" and can, for example, adjust the focus when using manual focus. The UW housing permits you to do the same thing but NOT by using one finger, but using two (left hand holds a button down -- right hand adjusts using one of 4 buttons that surround the "dial wheel." Since there is no way I'm going to use the manual focus underwater, this is NOT a biggie for me -- and if I ever did decide to change shutter speed or aperture, it is pretty easy to do so.

Peter:

The wheel at the back (let's use your terminology here).

Say again, how you would, for instance, set (if active) the f-stop..which normally requires one to rotate the dial.........

On the Ike housing you just use the 90 degree rotating knob as shown in my two pics..how is it done with the canon housing?

when you want to use the multi control dial on the s80 while in the uw housing you press and hold the print/share button while either pushing one of the cluster of 4 buttons on the back of the housing. right for clockwise and left button for counterclockwise.
