4 adults two 15 yr olds. 2 adults and one teen scuba. We were thinking of Cozumel but have been told the hurrican damage was a bit much. We last went to Bahamas. Need a recommedation for an all-inclusive, prefer a less developed country or area.:crafty:

You have a group of six total of which 1/2 dive.

Look at the Marriott in Curacao
Little Cayman Beach Resort on little cayman island
The reef resort on Grand Cayman with an Ocean Frontier Dive ops. tie in.
Deep Blue Utila on Utila

I definitely wouldn't recommend Little Cayman to a group that had non-divers as there isn't a lot of other thing to do, other than dive.

Sunset Waters in Curacao.

I still wouldn't rule out Cozumel. The diving is still good. There was damage, mostly to the very shallow sites, but the deeper sites are a little different, but still good. There is one benefit of the hurricane, most of all the resorts have been refurbed, so they should be in very good shapes. I just like Cozumel, so my opinion is probably biased, but there is plenty for non-divers to do there.

It looks like he group is leaning towrds the Grand since it is all-inclusive and looks to have enough activity for everyone. Any thoughts?:D

Cozumel is back....went last Oct('06- 2 couples) & heading back(2 guys only) in 4 weeks......That being said, I had last dove CZM in '89 & figured it was 'all dove out'....not so, in Oct had some of my best diving ever; own a house on Roatan & had been there exclusively since '95(25 times)...Dove with Aldora(www.aldora.com) in Oct's CZM trip, 1st class & possibly best dive shop, ever...uses 125 steel hp tanks & with computer(only) can get GREAT bottom time in.....Try CZM & Aldora, you'll like it.......Joe

Cozumel gets my vote! We travel there with our two teenagers (15 and 16 years old, boy and girl). They LOVE it! Very safe, town of San Miguel is great for hanging out and walking around. We never have a problem letting them walk around and they love the freedom. Also, there is a McDonald's, a Burger King, and Pizza Hut right in San Miguel and the kids love to get their "stash" and bring it with them when we go for fish tacos or cerviche in the many local restaurants. The locals are gracious about letting them bring in their junk food when they don't like what we're eating.
As far as hurricane damage, we were there in June of 2006 and the diving was GREAT, the town looks better than the first time we were there in 2005 because so much has been rebuilt and looks snappy and new. I couldn't believe how fast these people rebuilt and how lovely it was. Can't wait to get back there in April.
If you do have teenagers, try to stay somewhere within walking distance of San Miguel. Some of the all inclusives are pretty far out there. Check out Casa Mexicana. It's immaculate by American standards, perfect location, awesome breakfast included each morning right in the hotel. Large rooms, oh, and did I mention immaculate????? A big plus for the teens is that they have a Computer room off the lobby and supply guests with house computers. The kids would go down at night and email their friends or chat or whatever kids do on the internet and they were thrilled. Also included, no extra charge. We use Blue XTSea as a dive op. Last year my daughter had just been certified and Christi was wonderful about helping her and accomodating her needs as a new diver without compromising the fun for the more experienced divers in the group.
If the non divers want to explore, they can take the ferry over to Playa Del Carmen. Very cool town there with lots of authentic Bistro tyoe Mexican restaurants, beautiful beaches, and quait streets and shops to walk around in an browse. Not a cruise ship thing, very original local stuff and some fun pit stops like cool bars where you sit around on porch swings, etc.

Grand Cayman is lovely too but the town seemed like every other 12 square blocks where the cruise ships dock, could have been St. Thomas, Bermuda, Puerto Rico, they're pretty much the same.
Just got back from Grand Cayman and we didn't bring the kids but were sure they would be bored stiff.
PS- I did love Grand Cayman, especially the west end, but I was glad we did it adults only! And, everything was very very expensive...........could be taxing for a family of four or five....

Well, hope that helps. Let's face it, either way, it will be fabulous. Let us know what you decide!

How about Turks and Caicos? The Club med there has a great dive op and really good diving by Carribean standards. It is an adult resort, but, when we were there we saw several families travelling with teens. resonably priced as well.
Little cayman would be great also, but, don't plan on much else to do besides fabulous diving.
Grand cayman has more to do and the diving on the east end is the best I have seen in the Carribean.it can be challenging with swell, wind , and currents. But it is worth the hassle.
Ocean Frontiers is a great dive operation. The reef resort is pretty basic, but, nice.No beach on this strip of coast right now. You can opt to stay down the road at morrits. Very large with all the ammenities and a beautiful beach. red sail operates out of there, but, I would make the drive down the road to ocean frontiers instead...
The cruise ship crowds are not an issue on the east end either.
We rented a condo(dicovery point club) on the north end of 7 mile beach and never went into town except to buy groceries. crowds were not an issue. we dove with wall to wall divers. by far the best experience we have had with a dive op anywhere in the world. they are small and you wil not dive with more than 6 divers. they dive both the 7 mile beach sites and the north wall.
Enjoy!

p.s. we brought the kids and they loved it! lots of snorkelling and beach combing for them to do.
