after reading dozens of threads on the subject, i'e come to the decision to invest in a bpw set-up. while browsing i came across this package. any opinions, or other packages i should give thought too, would be welcome.

also, in laymen's terms what are the key differences between harness styles?

On the backplate itself, what height are you, and do you have a particularly long or short torso?

For example, I'm rather short-waisted, so I needed a smaller (shorter) plate. If you are average male height, you can probably fit any of the "one size" ones.

As far as I know, the backplate manufacturers who have more than one size are DSS (including small, medium, large, and long); Oxycheq (small, medium, and large); and Halcyon (small - which about like the DSS or Oxycheq medium, I think - and large).

Harness: Forget the hype. Go with the simple, inexpensive and (virtually) universally acclaimed hog harness.

looks like a solid setup and a good price just make sure you get the crotch strap and a wing to fit your needs...like the person above me just get the hog harness and life will be good.

5'11 200lb average torso length

Here is what you need:
a) Plate. They come in different sizes and materials. The best choice depends on your size and your neeeds.
b) Harness. Start with a simple hog harness. Add a croth strap (2 incch). Really -- skip the shoulder padding, the back padding, the chest strap etc. The crotch strap is important and in not uncomfortable when properly adjusted.
c) Cam bands. You need 2. And I don't see that included with this kit. (I also like to add the DSS wedge blocks)
d) Wing. Don't get a bigger wing than you really need. But be sure and get one large enough. And, at all costs, avoid any wings that claim to be for both singles and doubles. They will work poorly for both.
e) Depending on the wing, you might need a single tank adapter (STA) to mount a single. Some wings (DSS, Oxy, etc.) do not require this while others do.

For me, I would look at a DSS setup (talk to Tobin) or an Oxycheq Mach V setup (talk to Edd at CA) before this. Both are pretty close in price to this deal (especially after you add the cam straps and, perhaps a STA, to the kit in your link). I would start with a call to Tobin at DSS...
