This little guy is about 6 inches long, found him on the Papoose off of Beaufort on June 25 at a depth around 110. Posted it on NC Wreck divers and some suggested it might be a juvenile grouper or maybe a Harlequin Bass. It appears to be a harlequin bass but according to most sources NC is a too far north for his liking.

Any help is appriciated.

This looks like a Harlequin Bass, but is a bit large for one of those. I can't say for sure.

Looks like a harlequin bass to me as well. It's very common to have tropicals up this way due to the gulf stream current. I was on a wreck the other week with loads of queen angles on it. I also saw Spanish hogfish and cornetfish on the same dive.
