I received my PADI open water and took a NAUI AOW class in Hawaii. Can you transfer your NAUI to PADI? Can I take a PADI Rescue Diver Course with my NAUI AOW or do I have to be a PADI open water diver?

I do not want to transfer I was just wondering in case I had to for the rescue diver class.

In most cases, agencies allow instructors to determine if you have had equivalent experience to that required for entry into the class you want to take. If you have that equivalent, even if not with the same agency, you will likely be able to participate.

Would the orginization that a diver is switching into require a test? Is it up to the instructor?

When you take a course from NAUI, and have been previously certified to dive (regardless of agency), the instructor (NAUI) is supposed to do an evaluation of your diving knowledge and skills prior to the course, unless he/she is familiar with your diving abilities. Once this is done the instructor should bring the diver up to par if there is any deficiency in skills or knowledge for that level before starting the course.

Does it work the other way around? is it the same for all agencies?

Not sure what you are asking :06:

I'm not familiar with other agencies specific policies regarding this but it would seem logical that they have some policy regarding about evaluating divers prior to accepting them into a course. Certainly it would make good sense from a liability and safety perspective. I think most agencies are pretty good at covering themselves in this regard.
