WRECK DIVING IN NANAIMO, BRITISH COLUMBIA

We will be joining our friends, Ken and Carolyn of Divers Choice in Nanaimo for an amazing wreck diving weekend. This is an all-inclusive (with the exception of dinner on Saturday night) getaway, created for divers, at a price that won’t be beat!!

We’ll meet in Nanaimo (carpooling and airport pickups will be arranged) on Friday night at the dive lodge. You’ll be treated to an evening BBQ on the deck overlooking the bay at sunset. Good food, new friends and some of the most picturesque scenery on the globe will start your wreck adventure.

Saturday, after a breakfast feast prepared at the lodge, we’ll head out for two dives. First, we’ll do a survey of the Cape Breton, a 440’ WWII Victory Ship. The HMCS Cape Breton was sunk off Snake Island very close to the Saskatchewan in Oct. 2001. This makes her the second largest diver prepared reef in the world.

After a hearty lunch prepared by Carolyn (really, she’s the reason we’re going!!) on the boat, we’ll dive the Rivtow Lion Tug. This is an easy wreck dive, where students will learn how to lay a line to follow on a penetration dive of a wreck.

Saturday night, we’ll enjoy a local restaurant for dinner before retiring for the night.

Sunday, another feast awaits your morning appetite (so is this a dive weekend…or a food weekend?). We’ll then do a survey of the Saskatchewan and a penetration dive of the wreck. The Saskatchewan was sunk in June of 1997. She lies upright in approximately 130 feet of water. She is a 366’ Ex MacKenzie Class Destroyer Escort. There is little or no tidal current on this wreck and the marine growth since her sinking is amazing. This is a diver prepared wreck and is very wide open.

Returning to shore, we’ll bid farewell to Nanaimo, heading across on the ferry to the mainland…back to reality. Alas, if only the weekend would never end.

Full Weekend: Includes lodging for two nights; 1 dinner, 2 breakfasts and 1 lunch; two days of boat diving and two optional shore dives on Friday afternoon and Saturday night.

All inclusive for $395. (Limited spots available…$100 non-refundable deposit holds your spot)

Note: To penetrate the wrecks, you must be wreck certified and agree to run a reel. No exceptions. Nitrox class available on the trip, if you wish to get your certification in that as well.

What are the water temps in Nanaimo this time of the year?

You can expect about 45deg.F It's well worth it.... The wrecks are great!
