Just uploaded some of my better shots from our Maui trip this past week. Though not actually my first dive with the camera (first time was three weeks ago at Anacapa for practice and familiarity), this was the first real attempt at photographing something.

http://www.scubaboard.com/gallery/showgallery.php/ppuser/40123/cat/500

Photos were taken while diving and snorkeling at the following locations: Molokini, Lanai, Honolua, Kapalua, Ahi'hi, and Five Graves. Among the highlights were the Manta at Molokini and the Monk Seal while snorkeling off of the north point at Kapalua.

I managed to get in a total of nine scuba dives (four boat dives, the rest shore dives which included a night dive) in the five days available to dive (didnt the last day due to air travel) and snorkeled all six days.

All of the above photos were shot in underwater mode with no flash. I captured approximately 300 images and managed to get probably 50 decent ones, of which the posted images are among the best of those.

All in all I really like the camera but want to get an external strobe as soon as possible (nearly 100% of the images shot with the camera's flash were total crap).

Cheers!!

Robert

You have some great shots. I'm going to be in Maui this November. Any suggestiongs on who to dive with?

I take that as an very kind compliment as I have seen your work Chad and it's been inspirational.

I went through Pacific Dive (http://www.pacificdive.com ) in Lahaina for a number of reasons: First, they offered boat trips for both snorkelers and divers, and I was there with snorkeling family and wanted to spend as much time with them as possible. Second, we were staying in Lahaina and they operated out of Mala Ramp so it was convenient. Third, they offered equipment rentals for my beach dives at a discount because I booked trips through them. They did use independent providers for the boat trips: Extended Horizons for Lanai trips and Maui Diamond 2 for Molokini.

All that being said, had I been booking strictly scuba dives, I would have gone with Mike Severns or Ed Robinson as they are the two most highly recommended operators by folks here on the board.

Hey Chad - I dove with shakadivers.com when I was in Maui over Christmas. Doug is fantastic and the Scubabus is just too cool. Very personal feel - feels more like you are diving with a friend rather than a company gig. I also dove with Maui Dive Shop - but enjoyed my dives with Doug much more, plus his rates are way good and he even has scooters! If you contact him, tell him Brooke in Austin Texas sent ya! He offers full photo (& maybe video?) services ... In fact - he took the picture that's in my profile here on Scubaboard.

Have fun!!
