Hello all,
Heading back to the East End again in May. Stay at Morritts and Dive with Ocean Frontiers. I've been going there since the early 90's, and diving with OF since they started in 1997. I know Grand Cayman, and the East End dive sites like the back of my hand. Got tired of the 7 Mile Beach scene many moons ago.
This trip, I am diving and fishing my way. Not that Ocean Frontiers doesn't let me do my own thing. They are the best. But this trip, for one day, I am taking it to the next level.
I am renting a 22 foot boat from Moore Marine. Picking it up at the CI Yacht Club on the North Sound, about half way up West bay Road. Seats 9, and includes 2 fishing reels. I'm leaving at 9, heading up through the North Sound, past Rum Point, and diving the North Side. Boat is due back at 4.
Total cost including gas and oil is $670 US. I've always wanted to do this, and finally added it to my "Bucket List" and plan on crossing it off this trip. I spoke at length with the owner of Moore Marine last trip, and he said that people who are regulars in Cayman do it all the time. Diving on your own is perfectly legal and tying up at any of the buoys is legal. They are all public moorings. While the Rum Point Dock is not public, the Kaibo Yacht Club at Rum Point is.
I have no problem with navigating the boat or finding any given dive site. What I do have a problem with is leaving the boat unattended on the surface. I go to Bonaire once a year too, and am very familiar with diving without a dive master, taking all the precautions, and not doing anything stupid.
My question is this: Any other couples or singles going down that same week that would be interested in joining us? Like Jimmy Buffet says, "I've got a Schoolboy Heart". If you do the math, 4-6 people can dive anywhere they want all day, fish, dock at Kaibo for lunch, and still come out just a little bit over what you would pay for a 2 tank AM dive.
Anyone interested? P.S. This is my first post on this board, so please bear with me while I get used to it.
