glbirch,

Where do you buy this 'thicker skull' you speak of? My LDS doesn't seem to carry them. Mine's getting thin from too much use and abuse!

LOL

I thought we all had to use the same equipment, less we be strokes! I like this idea of individuality in dive gear selection, especially when someone goes for the 100lb wing and the pink fins!

Husqvarva - don't they make chainsaws?

Keep warm and dive safe,

MemPilot Sorry, the thick skull took years of hard training to acquire. Comes in handy sometimes though, even if I am a little 'top heavy' in the water. :)

Yes, they make quality chainsaws. An indespensible dive tool...

I thought I was an indespensible dive tool. Or at least, that's what they keep telling me at the dock.

Mempilot,
Strokes are dispensible - hang im! :) Says the DiveJudge looking at you in the dock.

This thread was a fun read...looks like someone didn't get the "thick skin" they asked for at Christmas. :D

Here's my read on it...FWIW...

1.) Money spent does not directly relate to quality in scuba equipment or wine
2.) SB is a great place to learn from...dude...this is a premier site for getting answers and asking questions without getting flamed. Sometimes a bit of discernment helps however.
3.) You mention NO WHERE in your profile where you are diving or what your diving goals are. This is important as it influences gear selection.
4.) There is no such thing as a one size fits all BC...however...a decent harness can be mated to a nearly infinite number of wings and configurations from initial OW to the most stringent tech dives. In other words, select a good foundation. Personally, I don't like the OMS harness you have selected for the following reasons. #1 I don't like quick-releases, #2 I don't like cummerbunds, #3 I don't like padding, #4 I don't like OMS crotch straps (see #1), #5 I don't like their "no-sag pockets" because they do. #6, eventually, this harness will wear-out. My preference is for any backplate and single-piece webbing harness. Cost...less than the OMS harness...versatility...considerably greater.
5.) You are currently a recently certified single tank diver...it will be some time before you dive doubles, therefore, match the wing to the diving you will be doing NOW. Look for a wing designed exclusively for single tanks...OMS, Oxycheq, and Halcyon all make one. The advantage is your tank will be correctly supported underwater without looking like a hotdog in a bun. Also...a single tank wing gives you much less frontal area in the water which will decrease drag. Drag is a HUGE component in air consumption as you have to work MUCH harder to move a larger wing in the water. As a new diver, this will help your dives to last longer. A good indicator of wing size is the ability of it to stay afloat with your tank of choice by itself at the surface. Remember, you should be wearing just enough weight to stay neutral at 10-15 feet with an almost empty tank and an empty wing/BC.
6.) If you intend to eventually try doubles diving...a new wing is all you will really need, if you don't, the gear you have will serve you well regardless.
7.) In terms of regulator selection...take a look at what the tech divers are using. They tend to buy regs which are easy to repair (lot's of parts available), bombproof design, breathe well at all depths...again...latest isn't necessarily greatest...most money is definitely not best spent money.
8.) Word of advise...good for the board and for life...if you act like a know-it-all jerk... don't be surprised when you get treated like a know-it-all jerk.

Good luck...feel free to ask anything you want...you'll get some great responses.
