Been registered here for a while but just now starting to post. My name is Bryan and my fiance Sarah and I are finishing up or SSI OW certification this weekend. We are taking the course at Open Water Adventure here in Concord, NC. We are getting married on September 20th in Key West, Florida and needless to say defintly going to go get wet. Our trip is is going like this. Going down on the 17th (driving) and staying at Amoray and doing some diving with Amy Slate's. We will dive Sunday, get married Tuesday in Key West, dive Wedneday and Thursday, then comes the rest of the fun. We are driving back up to Miami on Friday and taking a 3 day cruise to the Bahamas and doing a dive there as well. Hopefully it will be fun and from the people I have talked to, it sounds like it will be some good dives.

I am VERY fortunate to be with a person who is loving this as much as I am and feel blessed to have found that finally. Been a LONG 33 years of waiting for the good to finally get here!

OK, enough about us and a little about the gear we purchased just so I can hear some opinions:

Me / Her
Aeris Atmos XT BC / Oceanic Isla
Mares Proton MR-12 Reg / Same
Dacor Viper Octo / Same
Dacor Darwin Air / Nitrox computers / Same
Tusa Xpert Zoom O/H fins / Same

Some other goodies are two of the Aquatech Sub Alerts, Tusa Boots, 3mm full and shorty wetsuits, Tusa gloves, and various other bags and goodies. So with that, let's hear what you think...

Congrat! Sounds like a great place to start your life together. I personally can't think of a better way either - diving and more diving with a little SI time in between.

The only gear I have any info on is the Oceanic Isla BC - that is what I have used for 6 years and I like it real well.

Best Wishes
Becky

All sounds good.
It's probably good you are both using the same computer as the algorithms will be the same -- that said, don't mix them up, espeacially if one of you is doing an extra or deeper dive.

Good luck

Thanks guys for the welcome and the advice. We got as much of the stuff the same we would both be very familiar with each others gear as best we could.

Great. I just advise people to stay away from older Dacor regs (sportster etc) because it may be hard to get them serviced in the future. I think you'll be fine.

I stayed at and dove with Amy Slade's for my first ocean diving experience.

They are clearly what folks here refer to as a cattle boat, but they are definitely a good choice for your first ocean diving - expecially since you are pretty much on your own. Just let the DM & Captain know its your first diving experience and they will assist accordingly.

My LDS recommends them for newbie divers going to Key Largo.

Thanks again for the advice guys!

Dan, I have done a couple snorkleing trips with Amy Slates as well as Aquanut Divers. Unfortunatly, Kelly's is closing down and Aquanut is going to be somewhere unknown at the time I will be going down. I have done a couple of "resort" dives so I am not completely unfamiliar with ocean diving but I want to stay with something simple for my fiance more so that my self. When we are done there, our Bahama dive will be with Bahama Divers for a one day one tank dive. We should have a minimum of 4-5 more dives before we get to the key which will put us at nine to ten OW dives. The others will be quarry dives so they will be a little different than the ocean but still any experience is to the good for us.
