Hi,

I wanted to get the Mares Proton Ice, but heard somewhere that they do not make it anymore. This was the regulator I've been looking for, and I was wondering if it can still be purchased? If not, what are some other good regulators?

I bought my proton ice from Scubatoys.com has been gr8 reg so far, girlfriend bought her one as well and i believe she hasnt regretted it yet :)

Yeah you can buy it but DONT, the Proton Ice is not as good as the Proton Ice Extreme which mares presently carries. It is also alot better since it has the Cold Water Kit and it breaths better, plus it looks cooler.lol

I have owned a few different brand regulators and bought the Atomic B2 a couple of years ago and it rocks! Most all regulators today breathe better than the top of the line regs did 10 to 20 years ago. As a friend of mine likes to say, let your pocket book be your guide! Spend money on the regulator you like and cut corners on the accessories.

Thanks for the helpful replies guys. Is it a neccessity that I buy an octo along with my regulator?

Thanks a lot!

You need some sort of alternate second stage (Octo or Air-2, etc.) .

It doesn't necessarily need to be the same brand or model as your primary, although if it's different, it may need a little adjusting.

no.

if your buddy needs to share your air, you can share your primary regulator back and forth, back and forth ... until you both make it to the surface

-or-

when he comes over out of air, he gets a regulator all to himself, and you both make it safely to the surface

which one sounds easier, less stresfull, and less likely to lead to further problems?

;)

You left out the third option involving a single or double fatality after the fight over the only working reg, by two divers not trained to share air.
