Wooo Nelly,

Talk about something that is just amazing. I did my first dive under the ice yesterday with an instructor friend of mine. The ice is so amazing. I loved playing with the bubbles that rose to the bottom of the ice. I've been in a cavern before and the difference between the ice and the cavern was how smooth the ice was it made the bubbles look like glass, and a lot of fun to play with.

I did the dive in a WETSUIT. Actually it wasn't as bad as most the people on SB would make ya think. The suit was a 7mm Farmer John Styled suit and actually kept me very warm. Other than my hands I didn't have a single problem with feeling cold. Even once I got out I had enough time to run up to the car and change before the cold set in.

It was definatly an awesome expierence and I suggest it to anyone who just loves diving. (Taking the course of course. Not just jumping in under some ice)

I just did my first ice dive yesterday as well, and in a wetsuit too, so I can definetly relate to the excitement. Check out this thread, we've been talking about how cold to dive in a wetsuit, and there is a pic of me jumping in from yesteday morning. http://www.scubaboard.com/showthread.php?t=176714title=

Don't worry I have pictures I just need to get them from one of the guys I went with it wasn't my camera, but as soon as I get a hold of them they'll be on here.

Very nice Jimmer! What site was that?

Waterford Ponds, Waterford is a small town a little north of Port Dover, this is an old quarry, pretty shallow, good controlled location for a first ice dive.

hi all, DId my first ice dive 4 yrs ago in a fjord in Norway. Was amazing having a ceiling to dive under. in the summer they lay a route with ropes . so it is easier to navigate in the winter. I did use a drysuit as the water temp was 3 deg and air temp -10- the water iced up on ur suit when u got out the water.

enjoy
