Hi everyone,

I'll be heading out to Dahab in Egypt in August for my first ever diving experience. I'll be there on holiday for last 2 weeks of the month and will be doing my open water and advanced open water courses. I can't wait :D

Would any of you have any good tips or advice for me? thanks! :cool2:

Change your currency here not in the UK as you'll get a MUCH better rate.
If you insist on tipping locals etc then US $1 or 5LE notes come in handy.

hey.. thanks for the reply

should i take uk sterling or euro/us dollars?

i need to pay 350 euros to the dive centre on arrival - i was going to buy about 500 euros before i leave the uk? or should i change uk pounds into euros when i land at the airport?

thanks

don't bother changing money between pounds and euros if you are in the UK - just bring what you have and change it here. Ask the dive centre in advance how much it will be if you pay in pounds, or with a credit/debit card - I can't speak for all but my centre uses the daily exchange rate and unlike the banks, does not charge commission. There are also ATMs so you can just get money directly if you need.

Plenty of nice places to stay that are not so expensive - Check out the Thai restaurant and sit upstairs in Yalla bar and watch the world go by; enjoy the place. I work in Sharm but I like to go to Dahab for a couple of days when I get some infrequent time off. Last time I was there I almost fell off the floor in the Furry Cup - an excellent bar with a super cute barmaid, and full of divers.

Enjoy your time there!

C.
