I have a question...what caused the outline? It's especially noticeable around the fishs dorsal fin and face..against the blue background.

I've seen this on other photos, too.

The outline you notice is caused by a couple of things:

1. Most likely the outline is caused by the large difference of contrast between the dark color of the fish, and the bright blue of the ocean.

2. Point 1 plays into 2. Most digital cameras do not seperate areas of high contrast well. Point in case, look at http://www.dpreview.com for more info about it. They have sample photos, and I have seen it on some of the photos that I have taken (I believe it is called "fringing effects.")

Yeah...I've been reading about that, what causes it and how to fix it. The dpreview website is one of the best out there. Also check out Steve's Digi Cam site
