I am in the very early planning stage of a multi destintion trip to Asia (Thailand, Indonesia, Vietnam and Philippines (subject to change but that is the idea)). It is to be for approx two months and i was wondering what gear, if any, i should bring.

it is not going to be a dive trip, per se, but there will be alot of diving. So I figured I would bring at the least my Regulator, mask and of course camera. I think this is reasonable amount of gear and wont add much to the load. A buddy of mine thinks i am crazy to bring any gear at all.

We will be travelling on a budget so there will be public transportation (buses, ferries etc) so i guess security is an issue...

So am i crazy to want to drag gear all ove the place or does it make perfect sense to have the extra security of my own gear?

Thanks!

Dont think you are crazy at all, your trip sounds like a lot of travelling back packing kind of trip but you will be doing quite a bit of diving.

If it was me for sure i would bring

Regs,mask/snorkel,weight belt, camera, tank bagger and somehow fit in my small set of fins if i could as imagine be doing some snorkelling as well as diving and there is nothing better than a good spare of fins but only if i had the room for them.

Of course hiring a BCB each time i would be giving it a good check over.

Space is a issue, well instead of 8 t-shirts,would of only take 4 etc... you just have to cut down on all areas of your baggage.

Have a cool trip

I would take the gear – especially mask, snorkel, reg, computer and camera.
The cost of renting – both money and safety factors – my gear would be my first priority.

I would carry on the regs, computer and camera whenever possible.

Buy a lightweight canvas duffel with shoulder straps and throw a few days worth of clothes and some basic first aid supplies in the duffel, and you should be in good shape.

Sounds like an incredible itinerary – hope you post a trip report when you get back!
